
The Patrick R. Locco Scholarship was awarded to Cole Simpson, a senior from Grove City, in our Welding program. Cole’s family and instructor, Mr. Gilhousen, joined him in Erie, PA today during Manufacturing Day to share in his accomplishment! Congratulations Cole!!!





Protective Services students patrol the hallways checking fire extinguishers and lockers to keep MCCC safe. Another group of students learn the importance of water supply in their turnout gear for fire safety.



Navy Recruiters stopped into Protective Services today! Steve Ware and Keshia Fulmer are Navy Recruiters who met with Zachary Gramsky, a senior from Reynolds and Jesse Johnston, a senior from Jamestown. Both students are working with the Navy and exploring possibilities.

Protective Services is highlighted this week with students practicing physical training (PT) to meet entry level requirements for the police academy and the military. Students also work on implementing the In-Synch Records Management System for law enforcement at MCCC.

Mercer County Career Center celebrates the 50th Anniversary of our Practical Nursing program. PA State Senator Michelle Brooks, State Representative Ted Nesbit, and Mercer County Commissioners Timothy McGonigle and Scott Boyd joined alumni and current students of the program for presentations of official proclamations and refreshments.

Congratulations to our MCCC STRIVE Student of the Week – Tanner McElrath. Tanner is a Senior from Mercer High School and was selected by his Precision Production Metals Instructor, Mr. Booher. Tanner is a second year student this year and he has an incredible ability to learn. Tanner is always willing to learn new things and help other students excel. He is planning on going into the machining career field after he graduates. Congratulations Tanner!


A student welds the brackets for our student uniforms to hang on in Precision Production Metals. Another student uses the lathe for internal threading, this is for his NIMS chucking project. A table is set up with projects all created in Precision Production Metals.

MCCC welcomes The Challenge Program and Presbyterian Senior Care to talk with students and give incentives for Attendance, STEM, Community Service, Academic Improvement, and Academic Excellence. The competition is underway! Good Luck!

Paul Rickert, an 11th grader from Reynolds, machines his project to length while another student uses the media blaster to sand blast his project. The water jet in Precision Production Metals is programmed and used to fabricate parts for the student uniform rack.

Today in Precision Production Metals first year students work on their NIMS benchmark projects. Students also use a horizontal band saw and a tubing bender to make racks for their new student uniforms.

Cara Dougherty, a student in the Innovation & Entrepreneurial Development program, was crowned West Middlesex’s homecoming queen this past weekend. Congratulations!!


Highlights this week come from our Precision Production Metals class. Students work on their National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). Bradley Poole, a junior from Lakeview creates parts for an excavator. The parts could no longer be bought so he manufactured them.

Congratulations to our MCCC STRIVE Student of the Week – Kiara Devinney. Kiara is a Senior from Lakeview High School and was selected by her Health Care Careers Instructor, Mrs. Stainbrook. Kiara is a second year student this year and she is a diligent worker who exceeds expectations. Her goal is to become a nurse and she is exhibiting the type of motivation that it takes to reach that result. Her strong points are critical thinking skills and decision making, which will make her a great asset to any health care team.

The MCCC School Store is Now Open! Carpentry students helped build and set up shelving units while our Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development students run the store. Stop in and check it out!!





Chef Jeff Cecil, Sullivan Univ. Chef Rep returned to our Culinary Arts class to introduce students to the types of culinary delights they could learn to create at post-secondary ed at Sullivan. Chef Jeff enlightened students with tales of his experience in the culinary field.


MCCC Protective Services class welcomed Joe Johnson, Director of Field Ops for In-Sync Systems, a police information management system, for a presentation on the software that In-Sync donated to the PRS program for student use.


Today, students in Health Care Careers continue to practice their skills for Nurse Aide. Students practice patient bed positions as well as assisting to ambulate using a transfer belt. Medical terminology is focused on to further help students understand their environment.

Health Care Careers highlights include learning and practicing skills for Nurse Aide. Students practice taking blood pressures and bathing an infant. Students gain an understanding of the health care environment, anatomy, and physiology while enrolled in Health Care at MCCC.


Early Childhood Education students got out into the community this week to do face painting at the Mercer County Head Start Fall Fest at the 4H Park in Mercer.
